Try out the Fold3 plus 30-day trial on the Beloit Public Library homepage!

We have a 30-day trial of “Fold3 Plus” on the genealogy page of the Library website until mid December 2014. See:
“BELOITLIBRARY.ORG” > “Discover, Investigate, Grow” > Genealogy and Local History” >”Fold3 Plus”.

You must use the user id and password that are supplied on that page.

Our gift to you.

Come to the Stateline Genealogy Club where we will be using “Fold3 Plus” to learn how to do genealogy research  on the Revolutionary War Period with Katherine Kemnitz this Friday, November 14 from 10 – noon in the Computer Classroom.
This is  genealogy database that we are considering adding to the databases that the Library pays for,
if we could get organization(s) to underwrite the subscription fees.
Let us know what you think of it.
Meanwhile have fun using it in your genealogy searching, and you can see if it is a database that you want to purchase for yourself at home.
Don’t forget the Genealogy Databases that we already have, “Ancestry.com” (Library Edition – to use in the building), and “Heritage Quest” on Badgerlink for Wisconsin residents.  These are also on the same homepage location.

Ten went on July 16, 2014 bus trip to Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) Archives and Library in Madison.

Great day had by all ten of us, and lots of research done.

The trip gave us a chance to compare genealogy techniques and forms, and to get to know each other better.

I only took a short break to eat snack in the hallway,

and went to Fayette County, Pennsylvania to hang out with my great, great, great grandpa and grandma Leighty instead.

The Van Galder bus left South Beloit at 8:10 a.m. and we all made it back for the last bus back at 4:30 p.m.

WHS is a beautiful building, and the staff is very helpful.

We will go back again – at least 2 books are waiting for me about my family in PA.

I feel like I was in a race to get through as much information as I could.

It helped to take pictures of the pertinent pages with my Asus tablet.

Our tour guide Lori Bessler wore a shirt that said, “I hang out with Dead people, I am a Genealogist”.

Thanks all for the chance to get to know my family better.

Wednesday July 16, 2014 Genealogy Club will go on a  bus trip to Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) Archives and Library in Madison.

This is in addition to our regular Friday, July 11 Stateline Genealogy  Club meeting – a live webinar on how to prepare for the WHS tour that starts promptly at 10 a.m.

WHS covers the history of Wisconsin, and has the most published and unpublished material documenting the history of North America outside of the Library of Congress.

Judy Nichols and Vicki Hahn will lead us on a bus trip to tour WHS.
We will meet at the Van Galder Bus Terminal at 15766 Manchester RD (IL 75 & I 80), South Beloit IL.
(Near the Road Ranger and McDonalds)
Parking is $3 for the day.
The bus costs about $16 round trip.
The bus leaves at 8:10 a.m. and arrives in front of the U. of WI. Memorial Union at 9:35 a.m.

We will walk about 150 feet to the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives and Library.
The WHS staff will give us an orientation and tour.
There will be time to do individual research and help others.
Lunch will be brown bag, the Memorial Union cafeteria, or restaurants on State Street.

More time for research until returning on the bus.
The bus returns at 4:30 p.m. and gets to the Van Galder Bus Terminal at 5:55 p.m.
(The bus route is scheduled several times throughout the day if you want to return later.)
